Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze coming in November
Developer Retro Studios is bringing back the beloved Donkey Kong Country franchise again with a new title in the series: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. The developer is well-known for the Metroid Prime franchise as well as their revival of the DKC franchise with Donkey Kong Country Returns which released on the Wii in 2010. I’m excited to see this next installment as Retro never disappoints. DKC: Tropical Freeze is set to release on Wii U this November. Trailer below:
Mario Kart 8’s gravity-defying racing heading to Wii U
The headline pretty much sums it up. New Mario Kart with sweet new racing mechanics. If you have a Wii U, you know you’re going to get it. It is Mario Kart, after all. Trailer below:
Pokemon X & Y add new Pokemon type
I know I’m a little behind on the Nintendo Direct stuff, but I’m a busy guy. Not really, but that’s the excuse I’m sticking with.
In their ND E3 conference, they unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming Pokemon X & Y versions that showed off the games’ new fairy type. The type will be strong against dragon type Pokemon, an update Game Freak hopes will help bring a little more balance to their monster collection/fighting games.
In addition to the new Pokemon type is a new mode in the game called “Pokemon-Amie” which makes virtual pets out of your Pokemon. You’ll be able to bond with your pocket monsters Nintendogs style by feeding them, petting them, and even mimicking them with your movements captured by the 3DS’ front-facing camera. I’ve never really been big about all the features they’ve added over the years that are like the talent show and even the Dream World, but this seems like something I’ll totally spend some time with. It seems much more worthwhile than dressing your Pokemon up for scripted stageplays. What I’m saying is, I love catching and leveling Pokemon, I hate dressing them up, but I’ll totally pet the shit out of them.
Super Mario 3D World heading to Wii U
Watch_Dogs E3 2013 Trailer
The more I see of this game, the more excited I get for it… and I’m really damn excited. This trailer shows off the seedy human trafficking side of the fictional Chicago. Crazy stuff ensues. Just watch.
EA eliminating existing online passes
Electronic Arts recently announced that their future games will no longer incorporate the much loathed online pass. It seems now that existing online passes are available to gamers for free. Going through their past library of games, EA is allowing existing gamers who purchased the games used or are borrowing them from friends to get into the online action at no additional cost. This discount is currently only available on Xbox 360 but will be heading to other systems shortly. Additionally, it’s worth noting that American McGee’s Alice download for Madness Returns is also available at no cost. EA released a statement regarding this move:
As we discontinue Online Pass for our new EA titles, we are also in the process of eliminating it from all our existing EA titles as well. We heard the feedback from players and decided to do away with Online Pass altogether.
Players will see it first with some EA Sports titles, where a prompt to enter an Online Pass code will no longer appear in-game; with other titles we are simply making Online Passes available free of charge online.
These are rolling updates that are taking effect over the next several weeks. We hope players continue to enjoy our games and online services for a long time to come.

Super Mario Bros. Movie gets a webcomic sequel
It’s been twenty years since the critically panned and commercial bomb Super Mario Bros. hit cinemas, and it’s been twenty years since that cliffhanger ending has gone unresolved. Now, after the film’s twentieth anniversary celebration, comes the exciting news that the story continues in a webcomic with a story by Parker Bennet, one of the writers responsible for the film.
While it might not have been the best movie ever, with many fans of the game complaining about, amongst other things, its radical departure from the source material. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve watched the movie but, as dumb as it is, I’ve always found some enjoyment out of it. I’ll not defend it in any way, but I do like it when an adaptation takes creative liberties with a property because I usually don’t want to experience a rehash of something that already exists. With that said, if you enjoyed the reptilian cyberpunk take on the Marioverse, check out the webcomic sequel.

Conker project lead working on WiiU game
Chirs Seavor is apparently working on a game for Nintendo’s WiiU. With all the buzz surrounding Microsoft and Sony’s next gen consoles circulating the web, it’s nice to see that Nintendo’s console hasn’t been forgotten. Seavor served as Rare’s project lead on Conker’s Bad Fur Day and has since gone on to start his own indie studio dubbed Gory Details. Seavor teased on his Twitter that Gory Details will be needing some WiiU dev kits and promised some gameplay footage in the coming weeks.
