“Wolfenstein: The New Order” officially announced

Bethesda has announced a new installment in the Wolfenstein franchise.  The brand has been dormant since under-performing Wolfenstein released in 2009.  This new iteration in the franchise will be a reimagining while staying true to its action-adventure shooter roots and is being developed by MachineGames.  MachineGames is composed of industry veterans who worked on The Darkness.

The New Order is being developed for PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and next-generation consoles for release in the fourth quarter of this year.  The game will utilize id Tech 5 (first introduced with id’s Rage).

Techland’s “Hellraid” has a teaser trailer

The upcoming first-person action game Hellraid from Dead Island developer Techland has a teaser trailer.  It kinda looks like the offspring of the aforementioned Dead Island and Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls games.  If they can iron out the bugs that plagued Dead Island, this might end up being a wonderfully addicting gaming experience.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon “sequel in mind.”

With sales of the downloadable title exceeding expectations by five times, it’s understandable that Ubisoft would consider making this one-off a franchise.  Michael Biehn, the voice of Blood Dragon‘s protagonist, stated in an interview with Microsoft’s Major Nelson that Dean Evans, the creative director for the testosterone-filled retro throwback, has a sequel in mind for Blood Dragon.  It’s likely, given the success of the downloadable game, that we will be seeing more of Rex Power Colt in the future.  The beautiful, neon laser filled, post-apocalyptic future.

Spies Vs. Mercs is Back in Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Upcoming Ubisoft sequel to the long-running Splinter Cell franchise is bringing back the popular Spies Vs. Mercs multiplayer mode which was disappointingly absent from Sam Fisher’s last outing.  Fans of the franchise have something to rejoice about amidst their complaints about the disappointing lack of  Michael Ironside (which, granted, is a very valid complaint).

Call of Duty: Ghosts Officially Announced

As posted yesterday, and all over the internet over the past week or so, Activision’s next Call of Duty game will be subtitled Ghosts.  The game will feature an “entirely new story, setting and cast of characters, all powered by a new, next generation Call of Duty engine that redefines the series for the next generation.”  As you can see, it’s very next generation-y.  Ghosts is scheduled to release on November 5th and is in development for Xbox 360, PS3, PC and next generation consoles.  The first gameplay footage will be shown at Microsoft’s next Xbox event on May 21.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Coming November 5

Ahead of Activision’s official May 1 reveal of the next Call of Duty game, a promotional poster has outed a release date for the already outed Call of Duty: Ghosts.  The poster proclaims a November 5 release date of Activision’s annual shooter along with a GameStop exclusive limited edition poster.  Now there’s nothing to be surprised about when Activision comes out tomorrow to tell us that Call of Duty: Ghosts will be releasing on November 5, 2013.  Unless this is all a ruse and there’s something completely different planned for the franchise.  In which case, we will all be surprised.  Whatever happens, you can feast your eyes on the poster sporting the release date and ugly bargain bin box art below:

Rumor: Destiny to Feature Micro-Transactions

An Activision employee’s LinkedIn profile has been updated to include certain information of his work on Bungie’s upcoming Destiny.  Said employee, one Ryan Wener, is listed as “Senior Director, Product Management” with Activision and is “leading marketing activities for the hotly-anticipated new gaming universe Destiny.”  Beneath that bullet point, however, is listed his work in “monetization modeling.”  This has led to some speculation as to whether Bungie’s upcoming sci-fi shooter will feature micro-transactions in its business model.

Nothing has been announced, but given that micro-transactions in games are more and more common these days, it wouldn’t be a surprise.  Activision is publishing Destiny, so an in-game monetization platform would be a shock to no one.

Destiny is currently in development at Bungie for Xbox 360, PS3, and PS4; a version for the next Xbox has not been officially announced, but it would be safe to assume that it’s headed there, too.  No release date or window has been given for the game at this time.

Hellraid is currently in development for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 for a late 2013 release.

Watch_Dogs Coming to PC and Consoles in November

Ubisoft’s upcoming Watch_Dogs has a new trailer and a concrete release date.  Announced at last year’s E3, Watch_Dog places gamers in the shoes of the technically-inclined vigilante Aiden Pearce who can hack electronic devices to gain information, wire funds, or trigger traps in an open-world game environment.  Watch_Dogs will be available on current and next-gen consoles as well as PC on November 19, 2013.

Quantic Dream Recruiting Veterans of the Film Industry

Quantic Dream Logo

Quantic Dream’s upcoming Beyond: Two Souls was recently featured at Tribeca Film Festival.  The games the studio has worked on in the past are best categorized as “interactive movies” with past titles having deeper focus on non-linear storytelling over intricate gameplay.  It’s no surprise then that the French developer is hiring film screenwriters and directors to assist David Cage in bringing his visions to life.

Beyond: Two Souls’ script is about 2,000 pages and was written exclusively by David Cage; having a staff of writers assisting in creating these stories could be a welcome addition to the studio.  Their next project, a currently untitled PS4 game, has a staff of three writers, Cage included.  The stories told in Quantic Dream’s games are still David Cage’s visions and, as such, he will continue to have the final word regarding all future projects.
