The Bureau’s latest trailer features a lot of black ink

Upcoming third-person tactical shooter The Bureau: XCOM Declassified has a new trailer featuring some in-engine cinematics and gameplay.  The game started its life as the first-person shooter set in the XCOM universe but recently resurfaced in its current form.  The Bureau will be released on August 20, 2013 for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

The Novelist coming summer 2013

A newly released trailer for the upcoming indie game The Novelist teases what could be an extraordinary adventure game.  Placing players in the ethereal boots of a ghost haunting a house inhabited by a writer and his family, they are encouraged to explore and influence the lives of these characters while staying out of site.  As a fan of the genre and as a writer, I can’t help but be intrigued by this title.  The Novelist promises a game about “life, family, and the choices we make.”

Rumor: Next Xbox to be called “Xbox Infinity”

In just one week, all of the rumors and speculation regarding Microsoft’s next videogame console will be confirmed or denied.  The latest rumor floating around is regarding the name of the console itself.  Casually referred to as the “Xbox 720” and codenamed “Durango,” it’s now believe that the system will be called “Xbox Infinity.”  There was some speculation after Microsoft registered the domain for Xbox Fusion, but an “inside source” has told IB Times that Microsoft has settled on the name Infinity.

Microsoft is set to reveal its next console on May 21.  What the system will be called, its capabilities, and, most importantly, the games will be showcased on that date.  E3 follows shortly thereafter, so expect some exciting news in the gaming world in the next few weeks.

“Wolfenstein: The New Order” officially announced

Bethesda has announced a new installment in the Wolfenstein franchise.  The brand has been dormant since under-performing Wolfenstein released in 2009.  This new iteration in the franchise will be a reimagining while staying true to its action-adventure shooter roots and is being developed by MachineGames.  MachineGames is composed of industry veterans who worked on The Darkness.

The New Order is being developed for PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and next-generation consoles for release in the fourth quarter of this year.  The game will utilize id Tech 5 (first introduced with id’s Rage).

Techland’s “Hellraid” has a teaser trailer

The upcoming first-person action game Hellraid from Dead Island developer Techland has a teaser trailer.  It kinda looks like the offspring of the aforementioned Dead Island and Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls games.  If they can iron out the bugs that plagued Dead Island, this might end up being a wonderfully addicting gaming experience.

Electronic Arts will be the Publisher of all Future Star Wars Games

After acquiring Lucasfilm, Disney shut down LucasArts as a development house and has restructured the studio as a licensing house.  First news of licensing from LucasArts has surfaced in the way of the monumental Star Wars license agreement with Electronic Arts.  EA has secured a “multi-year exclusive licensing agreement to develop and publish globally new games based on Star Wars characters and storylines.”  Fans of both videogames and the Star Wars franchise are reporting a great disturbance in the Force… as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

The good news in all of this is EA has announced that three of their studios (DICE, BioWare, and Visceral Games) are working on titles set in the Star Wars Universe.  Fans of the original Knights of the Old Republic (such as myself) are certainly hoping for a single-player continuation of that epic story while everybody else is undoubtedly clamoring for Battlefront III from DICE.  I have no idea what Visceral could be working on, but any speculation is welcome in the comments below.  All games being developed by these studios will utilize Frostbite Engine 3.

My hope in this (aside from EA not destroying the brand and milking the franchise) is that maybe 1313 will be resurrected because, well, it looked pretty awesome.

Rumor: Project Gotham Racing Announcement for Next-Gen Xbox

Lucid Games, one of the studios formed after the closure of Project Gotham Racing developer Bizarre Creations, is said to be preparing for a mid-May reveal of a new game.  The next Xbox is also going to be revealed mid-May; this has led to some speculation that the studio is working on a racing game for Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox successor.  Given the background of the staff at Lucid Games, that speculation is leaning towards an upcoming reveal for a new installment in the PGR franchise.  It’s been several years since we’ve seen a new PGR game and having an established franchise make a comeback for the next Xbox’s launch would definitely be beneficial for system sales.  This is all a bunch of rumors and speculation, however, so we’ll have to wait until the actual mid-May reveal to see how right or wrong we really are.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon “sequel in mind.”

Blood Dragon Logo

With sales of the downloadable title exceeding expectations by five times, it’s understandable that Ubisoft would consider making this one-off a franchise.  Michael Biehn, the voice of Blood Dragon‘s protagonist, stated in an interview with Microsoft’s Major Nelson that Dean Evans, the creative director for the testosterone-filled retro throwback, has a sequel in mind for Blood Dragon.  It’s likely, given the success of the downloadable game, that we will be seeing more of Rex Power Colt in the future.  The beautiful, neon laser filled, post-apocalyptic future.
